Cookies on Our Qzino Guide: Types and Controls
Cookies are small text files that a browser stores when a page loads. Our guide uses a modest set of them to keep pages working, to see which topics are read and to record visits that arrive through partner links. The sections that follow describe each group, the role of partners, the way changes are announced and the controls available in every browser.
Cookie types
The groups below are the ones a reader may meet while using the guide. Each one has a narrow job, and none of them stores a name, a payment detail or a password.
Our site sorts cookies into a few groups, each with a plain purpose:
- Essential cookies keep layout, language and basic navigation working, and they switch on automatically.
- Analytics cookies count visits and show which pages are read, using aggregate figures instead of names.
- Preference cookies remember small choices, such as a dismissed notice, so it does not return on every page.
- Affiliate cookies note that a visit began on our guide when a reader opens a partner link, which is how commercial (affiliate) links are credited to us.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies come from partners rather than from our guide:
- An analytics provider sets cookies that measure traffic and reading patterns.
- An affiliate partner may set a cookie after a click, so the referral can be matched to our pages.
- Embedded content such as a video or a map can bring its own cookies from the company providing it.
- Those partners apply their own policies, and the choices they offer are separate from the ones described here.
Policy updates
Tools change over time, and a change in a tool can change the cookies it sets.
This policy follows changes in the tools our site uses. When it changes, readers are informed in these ways:
- The policy text is replaced with the new version.
- The date line at the end moves forward to the day of the change.
- A notice appears on pages that are affected by the change when it is significant.
- Questions about a change can be sent through our contact form.
Managing cookies
The browser is the main control panel, and its menus differ little from one program to another.
Every browser allows control over cookies, and any choice made there applies to our guide at once:
- The privacy or site data section of the browser settings lists every stored cookie.
- All cookies, or only third-party ones, can be blocked if that suits the reader better.
- Stored cookies can be deleted for a single site or cleared all at once.
- A private window keeps cookies from outliving the session.
- Some features may behave differently after essential cookies are blocked, and a refreshed page restores them once cookies are allowed again.
